Why Cabernet?

Even though Cabernet can be grown successfully in a large number of sites and climates, it attains its greatest expression of quality only in those coastal areas where warm days and cool nights conspire to produce beautifully balanced fruit.

The Livermore Valley is just such a special place. Located 20 miles east of the San Francisco Bay (and cooled off every evening by this body of water), and blessed with a wide variety of soils and micro-climates, our Valley is a perfect spot to grow Bordeaux varieties. In fact, in the 1950s UC Davis was telling growers that the best place to plant these grapes in California was in the Livermore Valley.

The Steven Kent Winery produces extremely small lots of world class wine. Ranging from just a few barrels of a single-clone Cabernet to larger multi-source blends, each wine is handcrafted to produce the truest expression of grape, site, and vintage.

Our first wine love was Cabernet; we think it produces the best red wine in the world; we ardently believe that we have found the perfect combination of appellation and variety to marry our vision of what we must and what we can attain.
